International Learning Exchange (ILEX).

ILEX has been around for over 25 years, providing opportunities for international exchange for social service professionals.  We sponsor individuals with 4 year University/College degrees in social service disciplines i.e. social work, special education, psychology, etc.  ILEX “Fellows” also have practical training and work experience as a prerequisite to applying to our program.

If they’re accepted into our program (there is an interview process, school recommendation/professional recommendation, background checks, etc.) we then place them in not-for-profit social service agencies/jobs here in the U.S. depending on their academic background, experience, and interests.  ILEX Fellows are placed initially for 12 months to 18 months.  The majority commit to 18 months, and many stay for 30 months – which is the longest stay our visa process allows.

ILEX fellows work as direct care staff, direct care supervisors, family supports workers, in-home support workers, social workers, case managers, educators, etc.  And they work with a variety of populations including those with developmental disabilities, mental health issues, substance abuse, children/adolescents with emotional/behavioral challenges, etc.  We presently have ILEX Fellows working in a number of agencies throughout New England.

All receive ongoing supports from us throughout their program stay.  In addition, we pay participants a monthly stipend, provide housing, health insurance and some travel expenses.

If you have a need for any further information please let me know.  We certainly would love to have participants from Iceland.

With regards, Jeffrey Johnson
